Boy born with 2% of brain grows a new one
WHEN Noah Wall was born with just 2 per cent of his brain, his parents were told to prepare for the worst.
But the youngster astounded doctors by ‘growing’ a new one.
Now, after beginning radical ‘brain training’ therapy, he is defying the odds again.
After just weeks of the treatment in Australia, the six-year-old, who was told he would need a wheelchair for life, has begun to sit unaided and move his legs.
His parents, Michelle and Rob, of Wigton in Cumbria, are now hopeful their son – who doctors advised them to abort – will soon take his first steps. Noah’s brain failed to grow after he developed spina bifida and hydrocephalus in the womb.
Doctors, however, were amazed when scans taken when Noah reached age three showed his brain had grown substantially. He learned to speak and count but medics said he would never be able to walk – until he began the latest brain training.
Neuro-Physics Therapy involves encouraging the right and left sides of the brain to communicate in new ways to ‘open up’ the nervous system.
Fired up neurons then bypass the damaged spinal cord to get messages to limbs.
Speaking about the latest breakthrough, Mrs Wall, 47, said: ‘It gives hope to all patients out there born with paralysis.’
