- By JACK GAUGHAN

Manchester city’s lack of progress with Leroy sane’s contract negotiations is in part down to the winger’s mother.

sources have told Sportsmail that regina Weber, West Germany’s 1984 Olympic gymnastics bronze medallist, has proved obstructive as city attempt to tie down one of their prized assets.

city have been discussing fresh terms with sane since last summer with his deal running until 2021.

the Premier League champions, who declined to comment yesterday, expect the 23-yearold to sign an extension. sane has said the etihad stadium feels like home.

his father, former senegal striker souleymane sane, represents him officially with the help of intermediaries based in england but his mother has become involved in talks.

Germany international sane has been in and out of Pep Guardiola’s starting Xi but was vital in their 7-0 demolition of schalke on tuesday night.

the manager revealed sane’s confidence had dipped and other players have been preferred, but he is still a key player for city.

Bernardo silva, meanwhile, has signed a three-year contract extension until 2025. it is believed he will earn in excess of £150,000 a week, the prize for a stunning second season in england. real Madrid had been tracking his progress.

the 24- year- old follows raheem sterling, aymeric Laporte and ederson in signing lengthy new contracts.

city find out tomorrow who they face in the champions League quarter-finals and silva hopes he won’t come up against Portugal team-mate cristiano ronaldo, who fired Juventus into the last eight with a hattrick against atletico Madrid.

‘i wouldn’t like it very much, to be honest,’ said Bernardo. ‘i know what he’s capable of and once again he proved it against atletico Madrid.’
