We hold all the cards

-

SO, THE Brexit Referendum has become simply a public opinion poll. What a disgraceful display by MPs!

Having worked in Brussels and seen at first-hand how the EU civil servants laugh at the UK, I do not want my country to belong to a corrupt, unaudited German empire.

If the Germans want to sell their cars to the UK, the Spanish their holidays and the French their food and wine, they should be coming to London to plead for a deal.

We hold the winning cards, so why are we commuting to Brussels to beg for concessions? Can someone please lead us from the front and follow the 2016 decision of the British people. HERBERT EDWARDS,

Hoddesdon, Herts. THE Mail’s campaign to get all Conservative MPs to back the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal is excellent, but unlikely to get enough support without some Labour MPs also voting in favour.

The Labour position is cynically motivated by political rather than Brexit planning. Some 70 Labour MPs represent Brexit- supporting constituencies, so getting even half of these to back the PM would get a positive result.

Labour’s plan for an alternative Soft Brexit is based on having a permanent customs union, which

would result in free movement and a restricted ability to make free trade deals — not what people voted for ! MARTIN DENNISON,

Godalming, Surrey.
