A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy (Owen Vaccaro) moves into the creepy home of his odd uncle (Jack Black, pictured with Vaccaro and Cate Blanchett) in an ambitious adaptation of John Bellairs’s children’s novel. It’s directed by Eli Roth — usually a horror specialist — and is only for older children.

STAR QUIZZERS Blockbuste­rs, 8pm, Comedy Central

ALL three celebrity contenders in this new edition of the rebooted quiz are Britain’s Got Talent judges. Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden are on one team, David Walliams is on the other, and they’re all so used to playing off each other that it makes for cracking entertainm­ent.

LAW FIRM The Good Fight, 9pm, More4

‘FACTS . . . pointless.’ That is the attitude of the new lawyer who swaggers into The Good Wife spin-off this week. Roland Blum dresses like Simon Callow in Four Weddings and is played with animal rage by Michael Sheen. He becomes a mentor of sorts to Maia, who is feeling ostracised at the firm.

PACIFIC COAST David Jason: Plane, Trains & Automobile­s, 9pm, Gold

IN WEEK two of his scenic U.S. journey, David heads down the west coast, from Washington state into beautiful Oregon. He hovers in a helicopter above Mount St Helens, which erupted in 1980, and is also delighted to fly in a P-51 Mustang.

COP DRAMA The Rookie, 9pm, Sky Witness

‘EVERYONE you meet is one bad day away from committing a crime.’ That’s the wisdom on test in this episode, and it comes from the hardened training officer to Nathan Fillion’s rookie. Nolan (Fillion) believes in people, but on the basis of the first few scenes, he’s wrong.

U.S. CLAIRVOYAN­T Hollywood Medium With Tyler Henry, 9pm, E!

REBEL WILSON (pictured — star of Pitch Perfect) and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) are the two famous faces receiving psychic readings from Tyler in this first of a new series. Tyler and Vergara are fans of each other, and their meeting is nice to watch. (Sky 123, Virgin 156)

THE gamers are up in arms in part two of E4’s nicely written British comedy — Vince Vaughn has been cast in a big new fantasy movie. They rage that he’s unsuitable for the part, and stage an online protest that swiftly escalates. Back in the real world, flatmate Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) offers some perspectiv­e, which they ignore.

ENJOYABLE adventure about archaeolog­y students getting trapped in a rift in time when they set out to rescue their professor from a cave system in Texas.
