THIS IS WHAT 54 LOOKS LIKE

- Interview: FLORENCE SCORDOULIS

CAROLINE CHENIER is single and lives in London. After more than 20 years working in IT, she’s now a life and business coach.

DIY HAIRCARE ROUTINE

I’VE always had long hair — it’s a big part of my look. But it takes two hours to wash and dry, so I only do it once a fortnight. I used to get a weekly blowdry, but it became too expensive. Now I do it myself, using sulphate-free Creme Of Nature Argan Oil Moisture & Shine Shampoo (£4.99, superdrug.com). After that, I use Kerastase Nutritive Masque Magistral for five minutes, instead of a conditioner (£21.95, allbeauty.com). It’s less hassle and keeps my hair healthy.

DATING KEEPS ME YOUNG

I DON’T date men older than 35. I meet them on dating apps, such as Tinder, and when I go clubbing. They can never guess my age at first! My last boyfriend, of two years, was 31. It keeps me young: they have so much energy, which I feed off. I often feel zapped of this when in a room with people my own age. I hate it when people just accept that they’re old. I still love going out regularly and to music festivals. Younger men keep up better with my lifestyle and hobbies.

MIDLIFE GAP YEAR

IN 2017, I went backpacking in South Africa for three months. I was bored in my IT job, which I’d been in for 22 years. So I quit. It was empowering. I stayed in hostels and met so many new people. I also volunteered on a project that helps women get into work. It changed me and, when I came home, I decided to switch careers. It’s never too late to follow your passion.

SMART SCALES

I HATE that people just accept that you put on weight with age. I’ve had to up my fitness regimen with a personal trainer. I also bought a Withings Nokia BMI Wi-Fi Scale (£70, johnlewis.com). It measures your weight, fat content and heartbeat. The data links up to an app, which also records your step count, so you can track your progress.

EARLY MORNING MANTRAS

I GET up at 5am every day. I write down everything I want to achieve and reflect on three things I’m grateful for. I also repeat positive affirmations such as: ‘Money always comes to me.’ Then I spend an hour stretching and on the cross-trainer. It sets me up for the day. DO YOU look good for your age?
