Police quiz Stendel over Barton claims
POLICE have spoken to Barnsley manager daniel Stendel after allegations that he was assaulted by Fleetwood boss Joey Barton.
Sportsmail can reveal that the german met officers at Oakwell yesterday and talked to them for more than an hour.
Barnsley’s 45- year- old boss Stendel has emergency dental work after, it is claimed, being barged from behind by Barton in the tunnel at the end of Saturday’s clash at Oakwell.
Insiders have said Stendel banged his head into a metal support at the side of the tunnel, damaging two front teeth.
It is understood that police officers will speak to Barton as part of their investigation.
The Football Association have now received the referee’s report and it does make reference to the alleged tunnel fracas. They will seek statements from those involved having launched their own investigation. Barton, 36, was caught up in more controversy when a police officer prevented his car, driven by Fleetwood chief executive Steve Curwood, from leaving the ground. The car was allowed to continue after a two-minute stand-off.
A police spokesman said: ‘South Yorkshire Police is continuing to investigate reports of an assault at Barnsley Football Club on Saturday April 13.’
