Liverpool to give Ox new deal after injury hell

- By SAMI MOKBEL

AleX Oxlade-Chamberlain will be rewarded with a new liverpool contract after overcoming his year-long injury nightmare.

Just days after making his return from 13 months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, the england international will sign a 12-month extension to his existing £120,000-a-week deal.

The new contract will take Oxlade-Chamberlain to 2023 and represents a strong show of faith from liverpool.

The midfielder made his longawaited return to action on friday night in liverpool’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield at Anfield. It was a huge boost to Jurgen Klopp as his side go for a Premier league and Champions league double.

After making his return, OxladeChamberlain thanked liverpool’s staff and fans for their support.

‘Thank you to everyone who helped to get me back on the pitch, all of the staff at the club and my team-mates too,’ he wrote on Instagram. ‘ Also a big thank you to you, the fans, for supporting me in some of my darkest times as a player.’

Meanwhile, Andy Carroll has had yet another ankle operation, sparking concerns he could be out for six months.

The West Ham striker had already needed surgery at the start of April, effectively ending his West Ham career, with his deal due to expire at the end of the season.

The 30-year- old is said to be recovering well, but West Ham have no plans to offer him a new deal and he will leave as a free agent next month.

Clubs, including some in the MlS, will monitor Carroll’s attempts to return to full fitness before deciding whether to offer him a contract for next season.

He missed the first four months of this season after an earlier ankle operation. He then played 14 times before suffering a setback.
