THE Beatles have asked their parents and an aunt to accompany them on their Australian tour, starting in 12 days. George Harrison and Ringo Starr have invited their parents. Paul McCartney has asked his father. And John Lennon will take along Mrs Mimi Smith, the aunt who brought him up after his mother died. Mrs Smith said: ‘He’s a pet for giving me such a treat.’

Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous [played by Joanna Lumley, pictured] is one of a growing breed of meaty female TV roles overturning the traditional stereotype of a submissive, weaker sex, according to a survey for the Broadcasting Standards Council.

JAMIE OLIVER, 44. The Essex-born TV star and entrepreneur, whose restaurant chain collapsed last week, shares a birthday with fellow celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal. Oliver has five children: Poppy Honey Rosie, Daisy Boo Pamela, Petal Blossom Rainbow, Buddy Bear Maurice and River Rocket Blue Dallas, but says: ‘I get zero say in my children’s names.’ HENRY KISSINGER, 96. The statesman, whose family fled the nazis, served as the first U.S. Secretary of State born outside the country, under Presidents Richard nixon and Gerald Ford. In 1973, the hawkish Kissinger won the nobel Peace Prize for negotiating a ceasefire to the Vietnam War, leading U.S. songwriter Tom Lehrer to say: ‘Political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger was awarded the nobel Peace Prize.’
BORN ON THIS DAY
CILLA BLACK (1943-2015). The singer and TV star, born Priscilla Maria Veronica White in Liverpool, had hits with Alfie and Anyone Who Had A Heart, and later drew in audiences of 17 million for hit shows such as Blind Date. Black, who died at 72, had said: ‘Seventy-five is a good age to go . . . I don’t want to linger. I don’t want to be a burden on anybody. ’ SIR CHRISTOPHER LEE (1922-2015). With nearly 300 movies under his belt, the 6ft 5in London-born actor was one of the film industry’s most prolific actors. While serving in the military in Italy during World War II, he managed to climb Mount Vesuvius, the volcano which destroyed Pompeii. Three days after his climb, it erupted once more.
