EMBRACE YOUR AGEING

IN 2013, I lost my youngest daughter, Chloe, to bone cancer when she was just 18. Then, six months later, my husband was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. It was rapid onset. In 2015, he chose to go to Switzerland for an assisted death. These last few years have completely changed me. I meditate and write a gratitude diary every day to stay positive. Plus, I volunteer with aPODD (apodd

foundation.org), a children’s cancer charity. Getting old is a privilege.

COLD-WATER SWIMMING

I SWAM in the sea on Christmas Day, while on holiday in Cornwall. It was freezing, but euphoric. When I came home, I read up on the health benefits of cold-water swimming: it’s amazing for your mental health, fighting fatigue, alertness and even your skin. Now, I go to Whitstable in Kent to swim most weekends.

INSTANT GLOW POWDER

I USE Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (£ 42, spacenk.com) on top of my foundation. It gives me a subtle glow, which is helpful as my skin has dulled as I’ve aged.

DAD’S DAILY RITUALS

MY DAD was still running around at 96, and was an inspiration. He swore by cod liver oil, which he took every day. I’ve been taking it since I was a child, too, as it’s good for the joints and immune system. Plus, I have dry skin and it helps my eczema. He also did a headstand every day to ‘beat the blues’, until he was in his late 80s! I do them three times a week. I find it helps with anxiety.

MID-LIFE ICE-SKATING

IT’S important to have hobbies, simply for their joy. I’ve taken up ice-skating and have been having refresher lessons at the the same ice rink I used as a child. It’s brilliant for balance, just like yoga, which I also teach. Yoga gives my life purpose.
