Hair Force One! Cameron crimper on Trump duties
FORGET Jeremy Corbyn’s pathetic protest or the Duchess of Sussex’s no- show, the biggest question mark hanging over Donald Trump’s state visit was always going to be: who would look after the U. S. President’s famous comb-over?
So I’m intrigued to learn that David Cameron’s favourite hairdresser, Lino Carbosiero, was drafted in to join Trump and his wife, Melania, at the American ambassador’s residence in London.
However, Lino did not touch Trump’s precious orangeyellow crown, but was instead assigned to the First Lady.
‘I can confirm that Lino has been styling Mrs Trump’s hair this week,’ says a spokesman for Daniel Galvin, the Mayfair salon where Carbosiero is based.
The spokesman declines to give any further details, but a source claims that Lino was recommended to the Trumps by someone at Buckingham Palace. ‘Melania is lovely to everyone and does her own make-up,’ the source adds. Lino would be known to courtiers after visiting Buckingham Palace to collect his MBE from Prince Charles in 2014. He was awarded the gong for services to hairdressing after tending Cameron’s locks while he was prime minister, sparking accusations of cronyism.
The stylist, who charges £90 for a gentleman’s cut, switched the position of Cameron’s side-parting, from the right to the left, prompting speculation that it was a political statement.
However, Lino later insisted the change of style was simply due to chance.
He had a lucky escape in not being asked to style Trump, too, as the President is said to go to great lengths to keep it just the way he likes it.
According to his biographer Michael Wolff, Trump starts with ‘an absolutely clean pate — a contained island after scalp- reduction surgery — surrounded by a furry circle of hair around the sides and front, from which all ends are drawn up to meet in the centre and then swept back and secured by a stiffening spray’.
