Mur­der probe as woman, 89, is found dead at home

PO­LICE have be­gun a mur­der in­quiry af­ter an 89-year-old woman was found dead in her home.

Of­fi­cers said the pen­sioner had been as­saulted in what may have been a bur­glary. The at­tack­ers broke into the prop­erty in Waltheof Gar­dens, Tot­ten­ham, north Lon­don, dur­ing Satur­day evening or yesterday morn­ing.

Of­fi­cers were alerted by am­bu­lance staff at around 10.45am yesterday af­ter the body was found.

The victim’s next of kin have been in­formed and a post- mortem ex­am­i­na­tion will be car­ried out. There have been no ar­rests.

De­tec­tive Chief In­spec­tor Garry Mon­crieff, of the Met­ro­pol­i­tan Po­lice Spe­cial­ist Crime Direc­torate, said last night: ‘The woman had clearly been as­saulted and, as such, a mur­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion has been launched. I want to hear from any­one who saw any­thing sus­pi­cious in and around Waltheof Gar­dens and the sur­round­ing area on Satur­day night or Sun­day morn­ing.’
