37 migrants in Channel rescue

-

YOUNG children were among 37 migrants aboard three dinghies rescued at the Kent and Sussex coasts over the weekend.

The Coastguard and Border Force said all the migrants, who were stopped in separate incidents, said they were Iraqi and Iranian nationals.

In the first incident, 20 individuals were found around Dungeness after they arrived in a small boat on Saturday morning. Later that day the force’s cutter intercepted a small boat in the Channel and brought 11 men to Dover. Another six migrants, including three children, were found by police on the Sussex coast.

At least 966 people, including 89 children, have crossed the channel in dinghies and small boast since November 3.
