SO, HOW DO YOU GET SMITH OUT?
PAUL NEWMAN
THE only possible chink in his armour appears to be a weakness against left-arm spin, although admittedly some of his failures have come in Asia on turning pitches against Rangana Herath and Ravindra Jadeja. But we need to clutch at anything — send for Jack Leach!
LAWRENCE BOOTH
I JuST wonder if England are getting a bit funky with their field settings to Smith. Like any batsman, he’s vulnerable to a good length outside off stump with three men in the slips. Stop trying so hard to be imaginative and focus on the basics.
NASSER HUSSAIN
You’vE got to get the ball moving sideways. If you don’t, how about trying a leg-stump yorker against a player who moves so far across his stumps? We used the tactic once for Brian Lara at the oval and it worked a treat as Craig White slipped one behind his legs.
