Tarboosh set to take Bullet

- By SAM TURNER

Back TARBOOSH (Beverley, nb, 3.15) to go whoosh and bag today’s William Hill Beverley Bullet.

The case for the speedster, trained by Paul Midgley (right), is not obvious: he finished last of five at Nottingham prior to a typically competitive York handicap last week.

However, his effort on the knavesmire from a poor draw hinted that the fire still burns inside and it could be it has just taken a couple of runs for Tarboosh to find his way again following a wind operation.

There is every chance the sixyear-old will have plenty of pace to run at late, with Ornate and copper knight likely to blaze a trail from the gates.

If a furious gallop does transpire then Tarboosh appears well drawn to take advantage as he can often be a little keen early on. Historically he peaks at this time of year, with wins in four of his seven august career runs.

Likely favourite Tis Marvellous arrives in good heart but five of his six best Uk performances were at ascot so his latest win there was far from a surprise. His better efforts have also come on a sound surface, in contrast to Tarboosh, who loves to get his toe in.

The opening William Hill Silver Handicap gives GOOD BIRTHDAY (Beverley, 2.05) a chance to put his season back on track under conditions which should suit. a reproduction of his third to Headman at Newbury in May would be enough to see him go very close here and he wasn’t disgraced last time in a hot Newmarket handicap.
