Charlotte facing probe into her ‘illegal’ school

- Daily Mail Reporter

cHArLottE church is facing an investigation amid claims she is running a school at her home without government permission.

the soprano revealed on Monday she has put in plans to create a school that she says will ‘liberate’ the youngsters who enrol.

the 33-year- old intends to teach music to the pupils at her home in Dinas Powys, south Wales. But Vale of Glamorgan council, which has not yet given planning permission, said neighbours claim she is already teaching there.

Miss church denies this, and said she was operating legally. the council has not yet decided whether she faces formal action. She said a part- time home schooling group is using the annex for less than 12.5 hours per week, which was approved by Welsh school inspectorate Estyn and the Welsh Government. ‘As far as I’m concerned I’m not aware of any breach of planning,’ she told the Local Democracy reporting Service.

‘If the council want to look at what we’re doing we will welcome them with open arms. If there are any problems we will be completely compliant. this is a She charity said venture.’ some building work had been done inside the annex but had ‘not changed the character’ of the building. If the claims are found to be true, the council could issue a notice forcing the singer to stop teaching and take down any unauthorised building work.

Dinas Powys community council objected to her initial plans, citing fears it could raise traffic and noise levels.

But Miss church has said just one vehicle would be needed to ferry children. A Vale of Glamorgan council spokesman said: ‘the council is currently considering an application for a change of use...

‘We have also launched an enforcement investigation after receiving a number of complaints suggesting the use has started prior to planning permission.’
