Partisan Bercow

-

It SeeMS the judiciary is as divided as politicians when it comes to Brexit.

Last week, a judge in the Court of Session in edinburgh and three judges in the high Court in London ruled that Boris Johnson’s prorogation of Parliament was lawful.

But once again, the self-proclaimed defenders of democracy refused to accept a decision that went against them and launched appeals. Now the Scottish Appeal Court has changed the decision and says the prorogation is unlawful. What a surprise!

If Boris Johnson’s actions are regarded as misconduct in public office, then so too must be the actions of John Bercow.

Impartiality is one of the key requirements of the office of Speaker, yet Mr Bercow colluded in late-night sessions with tory rebels and Opposition MPs to discard centuries of convention and protocol.

Backbenchers were given control of parliamentary business, allowing Remain- supporting MPs to pass legislation to prevent No Deal and force the Prime Minister to seek a further Brexit delay from the eU.

the resulting legislation gives a foreign power control over if, when and under what terms the UK can leave the eU. this is undemocratic and unconstitutional.

ALAN WYLLIE, Largs, Ayrshire. AS A proud Scot and constitutionalist, I am delighted with the Scottish court’s ruling on the illegality of the proroguing of Parliament.

It has called out what seems to have been unlawful advice to the Queen. Parliament must be recalled and Boris Johnson should consider his position. Rev ANDREW McLUSKEY,

Ashford, Middx.
