NAOMI’S FASHION TO DIE FOR
Star’s bold bullet hole dress stuns crowds at charity bash
SHE likes to make an impact when she walks into the room.
But Naomi Campbell outdid herself yesterday when she turned up at London Fashion Week looking as if she’d been shot.
While the 49-year-old star’s audacious bullet hole dress appeared to some to be a comment on gun crime, it was apparently chosen to give a platform to African-born designers.
Not that the model is a stranger to the effects of violence. She recently revealed that knife crime ‘ leaves my heart so heavy’ as it claimed the life of her uncle when she was a young girl. ‘It’s such a violent act and comes from such a disturbing place,’ she said.
The white dress is by Nigerianborn, London-based designer Mowalola Ogunlesi and appeared to be from her ‘Coming for Blood’ collection, designed to convey the ‘horrific feeling of love’.
Miss Campbell wore the outfit at the end of a day spent hosting her star- studded Fashion for Relief charity show. She arrived at the event at the British Museum in a revealing black gown with a sheer, plunging neckline. But it was a quick change for the supermodel as she dashed from the red carpet to the dressing room while her guests, including actress Naomie Harris and Vogue editor Edward Enninful, mingled at the glitzy champagne reception.
She then donned a white vintage Azzedine Alaia creation as she hosted the evening’s fundraising dinner.
Instead of watching from the front row, Miss Campbell joined the 60 models on the catwalk in two flamboyant outfits – a colourful sequined gown followed by a futuristic coral creation, complete with matching headdress.
Clothes for the show were loaned to Miss Campbell by labels including Dior, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy and Alexander McQueen.
Proceeds from this year’s show will go to UNICEF and to benefit disadvantaged children in the capital via the Mayor’s Fund for London.
