OUR WINE CRITIC PUTS IT TO THE TEST — AND RATES THE OTHER A-LIST TIPPLES

-

The latest celebrity must-have is no longer a perfume with their name on it, but rather a wine range. But are the wines any good? here, the Mail’s wine expert helen McGinn puts the star-studded tipples to the test . . . Invivo X, SJP Sauvignon Blanc 2019 £12, Sainsbury’s THIS is one stylish bottle, with a citrus-scented, passion-fruit-flavoured wine inside. Sarah Jessica Parker’s New Zealand sauv blanc is relatively understated and not at all like Carrie’s dress sense, but it really works. Slick, smart and very, very drinkable. 4/5 Ian Botham All Rounder Cabernet Sauvignon £7.75, Morrisons THE cricketing legend fell for the wines of Australia years ago while on tour. So much so, he decided to create his own range. This gluggable red made from the cabernet grape is quite the catch. All soft blackcurrant fruit along with a touch of mint, it’s well made, sensibly priced and nicely packaged. Crack it open if you’re throwing an Indian summer barbecue. 3/5 Graham Norton’s Own Rosé 2018 £6.50 (usually £9.50), Tesco THE chat show host released his first wine back in 2014, a sauvignon blanc from New Zealand. Now there’s also a prosecco, an Aussie red and two Irish gins. But my favourite is this relatively new, dangerously drinkable rosé — which is great value to boot. Pale pink in colour, but with lots of citrus and light fruit flavours, it’ll definitely get you talking. A lot. 5/5 Miraval Rosé 2018 £19.99, Majestic BRAD PITT and Angelina Jolie bought this beautiful chateau in Provence over a decade ago. And they’re yet to sell it, despite going their separate ways. The wines are made by one of France’s famous winemaking dynasties, the Perrin family from the Rhone Valley.

And this pale rosé is fresh and crisp with delicate redcurrant flavours — but the price is a little more sobering. 3/5

Two Paddocks Pinot Noir 2016

£35 (usually £42.20), thenewzealandcellar.co.uk JURASSIC Park actor Sam Neill ditched the dinosaurs to plant a vineyard in New Zealand’s Central Otago, a premier spot for pinot noir, back in 1993. Regularly winning awards with each vintage, his wines sell like proverbial hotcakes. This one’s juicy with red cherry fruits and a beautiful smoky note. Expensive, but worth it. 4/5

Vida Nova Rosé 2018

£10.69, Wells Wines WELL ahead of the curve, Sir Cliff Richard bought a vineyard in the Algarve back in the 1990s and has been making his own wine range, Vida Nova, ever since. This is a juicy blend of local grape Aragones, along with the international Syrah grape. It’s almost more red than rosé in colour, with bags of berry fruit flavours, and is food-friendly, too. Put this with anything pink — prawns, Serrano ham, salmon. 3/5

When We Dance Chianti 2018

£12.99, Vintage Roots STING and his wife Trudie Styler bought the Il Palagio estate in Italy’s Chianti region 20 years ago. The wines are all organic, of course, and named after songs including Roxanne and, this one, When We Dance. Made from the Sangiovese grape, this Chianti is spot on with red cherry fruit and a gentle kick of spice. 4/5

Hampton Water Rosé 2018

£17.59, allaboutwine.co.uk ADDING a little rock ’n’ roll to proceedings, Jon Bon Jovi and his son Jesse teamed up with French winemaker Gerard Bertrand to create a rosé to sip poolside. But serve it chilled alongside a plate of salty snacks and this light, peachy wine will work just as well in your kitchen. 3/5
