Fit to enjoy life with turmeric

-

WHEN what we are most passionate about revolves around being active, looking after ourselves is vital, especially as we get older.

That’s why dressage and fitness enthusiast Anne Evans discovered the power of turmeric.

Anne (pictured), 57, from Cirencester, has been riding horses for 20 years, while also being a keen gardener.

Despite leading an active lifestyle, she began to find her joints were not quite what they used to be. Anne started looking at joint supplements, leading her to one developed by a Cambridge brand.

‘I consider myself to be fit and active. However, age does eventually creep up and you notice little niggles more frequently,’ she says. ‘They can impact the amount of fun you can have, and I was determined not to let this happen.

‘After much research with the help of my husband, a biochemist who has a very good understanding of how the body functions, I decided that turmeric was something I should try.’

While millions of us add turmeric to our meals, research shows that you need to consume it daily to boost levels in the body. And you need to absorb enough.

The key component of turmeric is curcumin — however, this only accounts for 3 per cent of standard turmeric powder.

Anne adds: ‘ It was a study at the Olympic Research Centre in Barcelona that really caught my eye. Knowing it was used by international footballers and elite athletes made me think it could do something for me.’ The curcumin in the turmeric supplement is combined with lecithin.

It is this patented combination that allows the curcumin to be absorbed by the body. Studies show the formulation is 30 times more absorbable than standard turmeric.

Anne started taking the turmeric supplement more than a year ago and it is proving a real winner.

She is horse riding, attending the gym, doing Pilates classes and finding it easier to keep up with her day-today activities.

Anne says: ‘I love it and have told many of my friends about it. When you discover something this good, you need to share the news. This fits with my mantra of being fit for your life.’
