Klopp: I don’t lose sleep over City winning 8-0

- ADRIAN KAJUMBA at Stamford Bridge

JURGEN KLOPP hailed Manchester City as the best team in the world but insisted he is not losing any sleep over their demolition of Watford. City bounced back from last week’s shock loss at Norwich with a statement response — an emphatic 8-0 victory at the Etihad on Saturday. And after his side responded with victory at Chelsea, their 15th successive win in the Premier League to restore their five-point lead at the top of the table, the Liverpool boss said: ‘For Watford it was a tough day. If it can happen against any team in the world it will be City. We had a similar situation when we lost there I think 5-0... but last night I slept pretty well.’ This season’s title race is expected to be a two-horse race between City and Liverpool and Klopp said he and his team were aware of the size of their task before the Watford game: ‘I have said it before, I really think they are the best team in the world. ‘I’ve said it before, I don’t want to put pressure on Pep Guardiola, but they are brilliant in moments. We are not bad as well, so that’s how it is. ‘It’s just about points. I still don’t see that in the end it is only two teams. I still don’t see that. But at the moment we don’t have to think about it. It’s Matchday Six. We talk about the championship with 32 games to go. That’s a bit early I would say.’ At Stamford Bridge, Liverpool raced into a 2-0 half-time lead after a stunning free-kick from Trent Alexander-Arnold and a Roberto Firmino header. They then held off a stirring second-half fightback from Chelsea, in which fit-again N’Golo Kante scored a super goal. Chelsea deserved a share of the spoils for their response and their manager Frank Lampard felt his young team was the better side. ‘Performance-wise, yes, particularly second half,’ he said. Chelsea remain without a victory at Stamford Bridge this season, and Lampard has become the first manager since Bobby Campbell in 1988 to fail to win any of his first four home games. ‘I won’t take Sheffield United at home,’ Lampard said, referring to his side throwing away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2, ‘but I will certainly take today. It now needs to translate to points because that performance, week-in, week-out, is going to amass points. ‘No home win yet is definitely a concern. The home win will come, hopefully it comes very soon and it will bring confidence to everybody, but we need to aspire to a level like Liverpool when they don’t play their best but they win.’
