-

Kate GreenhalGh, 38, runs a gift business with her husband John, 38. they live in Greater Manchester with their daughter, Phoebe, three. John recently quit his job to help expand the business. their monthly wage is around £2,000 and their bills come to £2,000 a month. For now, they rely on savings for day-to-day spending. here, Kate shares every penny she spent in one week.

FRIDAY: £185.20

We spent £59 at Morrisons ahead of my parents’ visit. £10.20 on ice creams in the park — to thank my parents for helping move printers into our new office! £40 on a back specialist. John has suspected sciatica. £40 on fish and chips for the five of us. £36 on milk delivery for ten weeks (we get through three litres a week and I haven’t paid for a while!).

SATURDAY: £20

£14 on cinema tickets to see Aladdin. £6 on lunch from the bakery.

SUNDAY: £5

£5 on fair rides at the park for Phoebe.

MONDAY: £60

£60 on a food shop in Asda. Phoebe goes to nursery from Monday to Thursday and when she’s with us, we usually take it in turns to look after her. But seeing as John is struggling to run after a three-year-old with his sore back, he’s doing less of the childcare and I need to be around to help box up the orders.

TUESDAY: £24

£20 on McDonald’s. Not a normal meal choice for us! Phoebe passed her first swimming class, which we pre-paid, so we were celebrating. £4 on an Uber. John can’t drive with his bad back. I took Phoebe home after dinner and John got a taxi later.

WEDNESDAY: £4

I took Phoebe to gymnastics and spent £4 on coffee and biscuits — this is my 45 minutes of downtime.

THURSDAY: £27

£27 on petrol and chocolate. I got stuck in traffic coming home from a networking day in Blackpool and I had to find a petrol station. ayearofdates.co.uk WEEKLY TOTAL: £325.20
