Wolves lose youth coach to FA

- By TOM COLLOMOSSE in Istanbul

On THE eve of their crucial Europa League tie at Besiktas, Wolves have suffered the blow of losing highly-rated coach rob Edwards to the England set-up. Edwards, who guided Wolves under 23s to promotion last season, could start work with the Fa as soon as the next international break. The former Wolves player and assistant manager did not work with nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team staff but was wellregarded by senior colleagues and this is undoubtedly a setback. nuno defended the plan that meant Wolves arrived at their Istanbul hotel after 10pm local time last night — less than 24 hours before kick-off. nuno opted to train at the club’s base, rather than Besiktas’ Vodafone Park, and was then frustrated when the squad’s flight from Birmingham was delayed by 45 minutes, putting their arrival back further. Wolves will fly back straight after the game. nuno cited ‘jetlag’ — Istanbul is only two hours ahead of the UK — as his reason for limiting their stay. ‘If we had wanted to train here, we would have had to leave at 6am,’ said the Wolves boss. ‘There is jetlag and everything in your day is different. The flight was delayed, we lost a slot. If we had to do it again, I would make the same decision. It will be a tough test against a good team. It will be good to play in a loud, rowdy atmosphere.’ Diogo Jota has not travelled due to the toe problem that kept him out of the 2-0 win over Watford.
