FOXES OUTRAGE OVER HAMZA ABUSE

- DOMINIC KING at Anfield

LEICESTER are ‘appalled’ by racist abuse aimed at Hamza Choudhury on social media and have reported the messages to the police. The midfielder, 22, who came on as a late substitute in his side’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, was booked for a challenge on Mohamed Salah that left the Liverpool forward with ankle damage. Choudhury was later subjected to vicious messages on social media — similar to the recent racist abuse towards Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford — and Leicester have demanded the ‘strongest possible action’ against the trolls. A Leicester spokesman said: ‘Discriminatory behaviour has no place in football or society. ‘We will seek the strongest course of action against those responsible. We are appalled by these comments, which the club have reported to the police and to the platform on which they were made.’ Jurgen Klopp was incensed by Choudhury’s tackle and felt he should have been sent off. Salah will receive treatment during the international break. The Liverpool forward limped out of Anfield on Saturday evening and when asked if he was OK, replied: ‘We will see.’ But Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers argued there was no malice in Choudhury’s lunge. He said: ‘He’s a very honest kid, Hamza. He gets highlighted, he makes challenges but he’ll gain experience, he’s still very young in his game and he’s learning all the time. You always have to protect your players but I didn’t see it as a bad challenge.’
