Murray’s Fognini blast

- MIKE DICKSON

ANDY MURRAY became involved in a furious row with Fabio Fognini before falling to a 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 defeat at the Shanghai Masters — having twice served for the match. Murray, 32, was angered when world No 12 Fognini made a noise as he moved to put away a volley during a match that lasted three hours and nine minutes. At the changeover, Murray told umpire Fergus Murphy: ‘When I have a volley on top of the net, he shouts and then tells me, “Don’t look at me” — he shouted in the middle of the point.’ He then told Fognini: ‘Mate, you do it all the time, to everyone. Shut up!’ Murray added later: ‘The sound came from him, which you’re not allowed to do. It’s against the rules, it’s hindrance. Fabio wanted to engage with me. I probably shouldn’t have done, but I am not having him talk to me like that.’
