Toon bid to bring back Gibson

- By CRAIG HOPE

NEWCASTLE want to bring England youth international Lewis Gibson back to St James’ Park, and the Everton defender could be tempted now that Peter Beardsley has left. Gibson quit his boyhood club in a £6million deal in 2017 after he made a complaint concerning Under 23 boss Beardsley. Newcastle stood by the coach — who refused to accept he had done anything wrong — and the young centre back left. However, the club have since sacked Beardsley for gross misconduct after they found he racially abused African players. The FA then banned Beardsley for seven months after an investigation found him guilty of using racist language. With Beardsley gone there is now a chance Gibson could return. The 19-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and he is friends with the Longstaff brothers, who are now starring for the Toon first team.
