POACHER MEAD ENDS DROUGHT

- JILL SCOTT England and Manchester City midfielder

AT LAST. It was vital for us to record our first win in six games and stop everyone talking about the losing streak. And sometimes it doesn’t matter how the goals come. There will probably be an element of relief among the players, but overall we deserved to win the friendly game. I was pleased to see Lucy Staniforth in the starting line up, too — one of four changes from Saturday. She has waited a long time for an opportunity and she took her chance to impress. At times in the first half England were unlucky. We looked most dangerous when we were playing one or two touch and little combination plays. Beth Mead was there to pounce on keeper Patricia Morais’s error and tap the ball into the net. I wouldn’t mind if every goal went in off the back of the keeper’s head. Nobody remembers the details.
