Ascot Champions Day chaos

- MARCUS TOWNEND

ASCOT could be forced to run some of Saturday’s races at Qipco Champions Day on the inner round course — usually used for hurdle races — after heavy rain left parts of the outer Flat track waterlogged. Clerk of the course Chris Stickels reports that the round course, used for the Champion Stakes and Long Distance Cup, is sodden and more rain is forecast. Trainer John Gosden may walk the course before deciding if Stradivarius can bid for a second straight Long Distance Cup. Racing at Goodwood was called off yesterday due to waterlogging.
