Poll lead over Labour could see Tories snatch 17 seats in Wales
THE Tories are on course for significant gains in Wales if there is a general election in the near future, a poll indicates.
They have a lead of four points over Labour there – 29 per cent against 25 per cent. It is up from a poll in July that showed a two-point lead, the YouGov survey for ITV Wales and Cardiff University found.
If the swing affected all Welsh seats, they could expect to win 17 constituencies.
These include Brecon and Radnorshire, which was lost to the Liberal Democrats in a by-election in August, and Clwyd South, where Boris Johnson lost in 1997.
Meanwhile, leaked Tory campaign leaflets suggest the UK may not have left the EU by the time of a general election. One said: ‘Without a strong majority government, we can’t deliver Brexit’ – indicating that they expect an election first.
The leaflets, provided by Tory HQ, were made available to activists last week.
