Rambler’s bullish bid for vengeance
They do say: ‘What goes around comes around.’ This, if you’re patient, I believe is true. I often go rambling with a mate. Last year we were coming down a steep slope and my foot got caught in a rabbit hole. I tumbled into a forward roll down the hill. Coming to a rest, I felt relieved I hadn’t sustained an injury. I thought maybe my mate might inquire if I was OK. No chance. he strolled past and said: ‘Attention seeker.’ Very amusing, I thought. This summer, we approached a footbridge with a gate beyond. In the field we needed to cross were some cows and a magnificent bull. We were admiring this beast and wondering how to bypass it when my mate inexplicably stepped backwards into a stream. I said nothing, but couldn’t resist smiling. There was no injury — all he got were wet socks, wet boots and embarrassment. The bull and cows meandered over to the far corner of the field and we crossed safely. I felt that justice had been quietly served in both karma and, even better, the old adage: ‘Revenge is a dish best served cold.’ Howard Thomas, Evesham, Worcs.
