Cost of a child

-

AS THE father of a son with Down’s syndrome, I was disgusted to read about the parents who successfully sued the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust after medics ‘failed to discharge their duty’ over their unborn son’s condition (Mail).

The couple claimed that had they known their son had Down’s, they would have had him aborted. In the event, they are likely to receive a sixfigure sum in compensation.

It seems the parents have been rewarded for not having been given the opportunity to kill their unborn child, while the NHS has been penalised for giving him his life.

The only blessing is that this little boy will always be too innocent to comprehend that those who should care for him out of love equate him to a sum of money.
