Blind Date

‘He carried my big bag of bras for a mile to a Prada party!’ ‘I felt bad sending her off in a taxi to get her last train home’

- Interviews: ALANA KIRK

MY DATING PAST

MY LAST relationship ended because I wasn’t ready for anything deep — I wanted to focus on my career instead. Since then, I’ve had only a few month-long partners.

I’m a bubbly and positive woman who can perhaps intimidate men, so I find it hard to hold down a relationship. I use dating apps, but often it feels like a waste of my time. You get chatting and then it fizzles out — they have to be 100 per cent in or I’m out.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

I WAS nervous because it was a blind date, but as soon as I saw him I knew we would have fun.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?

HE WAS four minutes late, but he made up for it by giving me a big hug. he’s not my usual type, but he is cute and smiley. I love the fact he has curly hair, just like me!

Joe looked very cool; he has a unique style and it definitely matches his outgoing personality.

EASY TO TALK TO?

YES, because we both believe in working hard and we love to party. We kept it pretty light, only briefly touching on past relationships.

We got on so well that, after dinner, Joe invited me to a party hosted by Prada that he had helped set up. It was full of cool people and we had such a laugh.

We told everyone we had met on a blind date. the staff loved it and all the girls gathered around to hear the details.

It was so much fun — I didn’t get home until 4am. It felt like we had known each other for ages.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

I DON’T think so. I came from work, so I had a big bag of bras with me, which Joe carried for a mile to the party. It could have been awkward, but he was a real gent.

DID SPARKS FLY?

I DON’T think so, which is a shame. Some men take you for a kebab at the end of your date, but Joe takes you to a Prada party!

DID YOU KISS?

NO, BUT we had a nice hug. I live in Leicester and missed the midnight train, so I had to run for the 1.30am service. I was in a rush so we didn’t get a chance to swap numbers.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?

I THINK he thought I was good fun. he appreciated that I was a business woman with a clear career path.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE HIM?

ABSOLUTELY. he’s a complete gentleman and I can tell he has a really good heart.

MY DATING PAST

I’VE never been on a blind date before. Although I’ve used apps in the past, I usually go on dates with people I’ve met face-to-face.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

I’M AN upbeat person, so I wasn’t nervous at all. We had arranged to meet at mele e Pere in Soho, London, and Katie was already there when I arrived.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?

KATIE looked lovely, but she isn’t my usual type. I love confident girls, though, and she was easygoing and chatty.

EASY TO TALK TO?

SHE spoke about her business and told me she’s writing a book about dating — she said she loves the energy on first dates. I’m happy to be in it — as long as I get a chapter, not just a page.

through work, I had an invitation for a party so, as we were getting along so well, we decided to check it out together. It was very boozy. Katie spotted Brooklyn Beckham and we ended up in a room where people’s socks probably cost more than my entire wardrobe.

But a bit of dancing was a great way to end the night.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

I DIDN’T realise she lived in Leicester and I felt bad about sending her off in a taxi to catch her last train home. I would have asked her to stay at my flat, but I already had friends over.

that said, she didn’t look like she thought it was an issue. She’s so easy-going.

DID SPARKS FLY?

I WOULDN’T say I found love, but I had a fantastic time and don’t have a bad word to say about Katie. She has great qualities, but there was no chemistry. I think we both realised early on we would be friends, so we just relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company.

DID YOU KISS?

No kissing, just good laughs.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

SHE said I looked like her cousin, so that definitely made me realise she didn’t fancy me either! At the party we chatted about how we felt and both agreed we weren’t each other’s types.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE HER?

YES, of course, she’s great fun and would get on with anyone. She can handle herself well and hold her own.
