Doesn’t add up

-

i aM not surprised that nineyearolds are being taught about a ‘fronted non-finite clause’ in school grammar lessons (Mail).

in sussex, six-year-olds are being taught about minuends and subtrahends in primary school classes.

Wouldn’t it be better to teach them — and many newsreaders and TV personalities — that ‘me and my friend’ is bad grammar, ‘ an ’ otel’ is incorrect pronunciation and there is no ‘ huh’ at the beginning of ‘aitch’. ROBERT PHELPS, Littlehampton, W. Sussex. DOEs a ‘fronted non-finite clause’ have something to do with Boris, Brexit and the erstwhile irish backstop? HUW BEYNON, Llandeilo, Carms.
