LARGEST MARGIN BETWEEN RIVALS SINCE MID-80s
THE gap between the h t two clubs lb is bigger than at any time since I left United in 1985 and I can’t see anything changing in the near future, either. People have talked about no United players getting into a combined XI from the two clubs and I can see that. Maybe David De Gea but no one else and he’s injured for this one. It’s a huge gap between the two clubs. You only have to look at the points difference after eight games of the season to see that. In those days, the dominance of either club didn’t matter, but it does now because Liverpool are so much better. Dominance didn’t matter then because we always felt we could get one over on Liverpool. In the 12 or 13 times I played against Liverpool, Ian Rush never scored against me. The games against them were always very tight and you always looked forward to it as the biggest game in the football calendar — never mind Manchester City. It will be another huge game on Sunday.
