Scourge of rubella

-

CONGRATULATIONS for highlighting the danger of not having the MMR vaccine.

My two young sons contracted rubella in 1973 when i was pregnant with my third child and passed it to me.

i was strongly advised to have a termination by medical profes-sionals who told me i could give birth to a disabled child. i refused, even though i was put under enormous pressure.

i was told i was being selfish and not thinking about my husband and sons, that my baby would be a burden on society and neither of us would have a life worth living.

i gave birth to my third son on December 21 — a wonderful Christmas present. Today, he is a successful businessman, wonderful husband and father.

even so, no one should have to go through the worry i endured, so do not put others at risk and have your children vaccinated.

ROS BOND, Fenny Drayton, Leics. i WAS three months pregnant and working in an office when, to my horror, a colleague returned from sick leave and told me she’d had German measles — rubella.

A week later, i had all the symptoms, but my GP said it was probably just an allergy.

The antenatal clinic said blood tests showed i was immune, even though my mother confirmed i hadn’t suffered rubella as a child.

When my beautiful baby boy was 13 months, it was discovered he had significant hearing loss and vascular problems in one leg, requiring several operations.

Believe me, if you were in our shoes, you’d drag your child to the clinic to get the MMR jab.
