Overdraft charges

TWO-THIRDS of Nationwide current account customers will pay more if they are overdrawn. The building society introduced new interest charges of 39.9 pc on overdrafts across all its accounts on Monday. It has also scrapped fee-free overdrafts for FlexDirect and FlexPlus customers.

No driver saving

A DRIVING course believed to reduce car insurance premiums may make no difference, according to MoneySuper­Market. The comparison site found providers did not typically reduce premiums for motorists with the Pass Plus qualificat­ion, which costs between £150 and £200. But it could help young, inexperien­ced drivers get a cheaper deal.

Investment flight

INVESTORS pulled £1.7 billion from equity funds in September, the largest withdrawal since the EU referendum in 2016. Total outflow over the past three months is now close to £5 billion, according to investment platform AJ Bell.

Oasis in cash desert

PAYG terminated

MOBILE phone giant 02 is axing traditiona­l pay-as-you go deals. Existing customers will still be able to top up their credit without a contract, but those joining the network will have to choose from one of its new bundles, which start at £5 a month for unlimited calls and texts but no data.

Fake listings

AIRBNB has promised to check every property on its website is legitimate. The property renting app says it will review every home and host by December 15, 2020, to crack down on scammers who advertise properties that don’t exist or don’t belong to them.

Funeral help

FROM spring 2020, grieving families who qualify can claim up to £1,000 to help with funeral expenses. They can currently claim up to £700 if they receive certain benefits, including pension credit and income support.
