HENRY’S BACK IN MLS AT MONTREAL

- CONTRIBUTORS: Daniel Matthews and Jack Gaughan

THIERRY HENRY has been appointed as head coach of Major League Soccer club Montreal Impact. The former Arsenal striker has signed a two-year contract, with the option of a further season. Henry finished his playing career in MLS, scoring 51 goals in 122 games for the New York Red Bulls from 2010 to 2014. ‘It’s a league that I know well and where I had a great time,’ said Henry, 42, who was sacked as manager of Ligue 1 side Monaco in January. ‘Being in Montreal, which has a huge multicultural heritage, is something extraordinary. I have always had an eye on this club and now I am here.’ CARL FLETCHER has been sacked by Leyton Orient after just 29 days in charge. Fletcher, who won only one of his five matches, signed until 2021 and was Orient’s first permanent boss since the death of Justin Edinburgh. Ross Embleton, Edinburgh’s assistant who helped pick the club up from the tragedy last summer, will resume control.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT have lost an appeal against a ban on their fans attending the Europa League tie at Arsenal on November 28. The Bundesliga club had been charged by UEFA after incidents during their fixture against Vitoria in Portugal, including throwing objects, crowd trouble, damages and a late kick-off. MACCLESFIELD were charged with misconduct yesterday for a failure to pay wages on time. Macclesfield’s squad went on strike last week and a team of youth and loan players was knocked out of the FA Cup 4-0 by non-League Kingstonian. The EFL said they would finance the wages after charging the League Two club.
