In the Line Of Duty, Kelly cops a starring role
SHE made her name on the wrong side of the law among the heroin addicts, thugs and con artists of Trainspotting.
Now Kelly Macdonald appears to be on the straight and narrow as a detective in hit series Line Of Duty – but as ever with the police corruption drama, all may not be as it seems.
The Scottish actress will play the guest lead role of Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, the senior investigating officer of an unsolved murder.
But her unconventional conduct is set to raise suspicions on the AC-12 unit.
The actress will join regular stars Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar when filming starts next year.
Show creator Jed Mercurio, 53, said: ‘We’re honoured that Kelly Macdonald will join Martin, Vicky and Adrian in series six of Line Of Duty.
‘DCI Joanne Davidson will prove the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 have ever faced.’
Miss Macdonald, 43, shot to fame as party girl Diane in Trainspotting in 1996. She appeared in the films Gosford Park and No Country For Old Men, and is currently playing a Met detective in BBC2 show Giri/Haji.
Other Line Of Duty guest stars have included Thandie Newton and Stephen Graham.
The final episode of season five drew more than nine million viewers when it aired in May, making it the mostwatched drama since Mr Mercurio’s previous police thriller Bodyguard in 2018.
Simon Heath, chief executive of production company World Productions, said: ‘ We’re thrilled Kelly has agreed to join us this series to pit her wits against AC-12.’
