YOU HAVE YOUR SAY

-

EVERY week, Money Mail receives hundreds of your letters and emails about our stories. Here are some on how an increasing number of drivers are complaining about their telematics insurance policy . . .

I DIDN’T get my first car until I was 25, and I made sure I chose an old banger, rather than an expensive vehicle. I parked it in a secure location and drove fewer than 8,000 miles per year. I saved around £300 a year on insurance that way.

I HAD a mobile app version of a black box. It was pretty good, and I received a £15 cheque every three months. However, you had to manually tell it when you took a bus, coach or taxi. I used to say that I was in a taxi if I was in someone else’s car.

MY WIFE had a black box fitted when she passed her test. She kept getting notifications that suggested her driving was nothing short of dangerous. It wasn’t until her insurer wrote to say she had been driving at ‘1,140 mph’ that we realised it was useless.

I’M A bus driver and we have a system in place that monitors our performance on the road. The problem is that it solely relies on GPS positioning, which sometimes goes wrong. On one occasion, it recorded my bus as going 70 mph on a 20 mph road.

THERE are far too many electronic gadgets in cars, from engine management to entertainment. They’re all well and good until something goes wrong and you have to pay a massive repair bill. I don’t know why some people think we need self-driving cars.

H. B. Manchester.

YOU just need to learn to keep your speed down while driving. If you keep your gears low, then you are less likely to race off by accident. It’s important to drive to the highest possible standard. More than 1,700 people die on our roads every year.

L. H., Plymouth.
