Day Charlotte stole the show

Princess thrills with angelic – and cheeky – walkabout

- By Vanessa Allen

PRINCESS Charlotte stole the show as she joined her parents at the Royal Family’s traditional Christmas Day church service for the first time yesterday.

The four-year-old delighted well-wishers as she pulled cheeky faces and cheerily waved and greeted them before stopping to accept Christmas presents, even hugging one woman in a wheelchair.

It was the first time Charlotte and her sixyear-old brother George joined the royals for the Christmas Day service. Their one-year-old brother Louis did not join them.

The young royals arrived hand-in-hand with their parents William and Kate, having walked the short distance from Sandringham House to St Mary Magdalene Church. Charlotte’s hair was tied back in plaits and she wore a smart forest green coat which matched her mother’s hat.

George wore a silver-buttoned navy suit and pale blue shirt, similar to his father’s outfit. Well-wishers had waited since dawn for a glimpse of the royals and praised Charlotte’s ‘impeccable’ manners and ‘cheeky’ personality.

Gemma Clark, 39, had waited in her wheelchair after travelling from Long Sutton in Lincolnshire with her family. She gave Charlotte an inflatable pink flamingo and was rewarded with hugs from the princess and George.

Miss Clark said they were ‘brilliant’, adding: ‘It made my day. I’ve never seen the Royal Family, ever. This is my first time at Sandringham and I would love to do it again.’

Karen Anvil praised Charlotte and George’s ‘perfect’ manners after she gave Charlotte a doll. She said: ‘She liked the doll. Her manners are outstanding – but she’s cheeky, she wasn’t at all scared.’
