Spacey’s back ... with bizarre Xmas message for his enemies
HE’S largely been keeping a low profile following a string of sexual assault claims.
But Kevin Spacey decided to break cover in a bizarre Christmas video message – filmed in character as the villainous politician he played in a hit US drama.
The American actor, 60, who has been largely absent from screens since the allegations emerged in 2017, said he would ‘kill’ his enemies with ‘ kindness’ next year.
The video, posted on his YouTube account on Christmas Eve, shows him sitting by a roaring fire and wearing a festive jumper as Frank Underwood from House Of Cards, the Netflix political drama based on the 1980s BBC original.
Speaking in his character’s South Carolina drawl, he says: ‘You didn’t really think I was going to miss the opportunity to wish you a merry Christmas, did you?
‘It’s been a pretty good year and I’m grateful to have my health back. In light of that, I’ve made some changes in my life and I’d like to invite you to join me. As we walk into 2020, I want to cast my vote for more good in this world.
‘Oh yes, I know what you’re thinking, “Can he be serious?” I’m dead serious and it’s not that hard, trust me.’
The actor continues: ‘The next time someone does something you don’t like, you can go on the attack. But you can also hold your fire and do the unexpected – you can kill them with kindness.’
Spacey had posted a similar Christmas video last year, in which he appeared to reference the sexual misconduct allegations and the fact that he had been dropped from the award-winning Netflix series.
In it, he said: ‘Oh, sure, they may have tried to separate us, but what we have is too strong, is too powerful. We’re not done, no matter what anyone says. Some believed everything and they’ve just been waiting with bated breath for him to confess it all. They’re just dying to have me declare that everything said is true and that I got what I deserved. Wouldn’t it be easy if it was all so simple?’
Staying in character, he added: ‘Only you and I both know it’s never that simple. Not in politics and not in life, but you wouldn’t believe the worst without evidence, would you? You wouldn’t rush to judgment without facts, would you?’ Following the allegations against him, Spacey was also removed from Ridley Scott’s film All The Money In The World and replaced with Christopher Plummer.
A sexual assault claim against Spacey was dropped this year, while another accuser died in October, after which the case was closed. This means Spacey will enter the new year free without any charges hanging over him.
