Costa girl tells of pool agony

-

A SCHOOLGIRL has told how she struggled to untie a life - buoy as her father and two siblings drowned in a Costa Del Sol swimming pool.

Favour Diya, 14, told Spanish police she had ‘great difficulty’ unfastening the life- ring after her sister Comfort, nine, and brother Praise-Emmanuel, 16, got into trouble on Christmas Eve. Her father Gabriel Diya – pictured with Comfort – jumped into the pool to save them but also drowned.

Spanish police claim Mr Diya, a 52-yearold pastor from Charlton, south-east London, and his family were out of their depth, but his wife, Olubunmi, 49, blames a problem with the pool at the Club La Costa World resort near Fuengirola.

Favour said the family did not know the deepest part was in the middle. She said she only managed to get out of the pool because she was near the steps.

She added: ‘The slope made [my sister] slide towards the middle – that was the reason my sister was there and... why I ended up slipping towards that area.’
