Baghdad protest mob storms US embassy

MoBS chanted ‘death to America’ as they attacked the uS embassy in Baghdad yesterday amid escalating tensions.

hundreds of protesters scaled walls, smashed windows and torched a guard post with staff forced to evacuate.

Troops dispersed them with tear gas before they breached the compound. A dozen demonstrators were injured.

President Donald Trump blamed Iran for the unrest and tweeted: ‘We expect Iraq to use

Defence and Security Editor its forces to protect the embassy, and so notified!’

Protesters were angry at uS air strikes that killed at least 25 fighters from an Iranian-backed Iraqi militia on Sunday.

uS officials said a small number of extra Marines will be sent to beef up security.

It was the first time in years protesters reached the embassy, which is in the capital’s heavily fortified Green Zone.
