THIS nuanced new profile presents the comedian as a man at war with himself — at least, in his early years. Pryor came from a very troubled background, but tried to sanitise his act for white audiences so he could find success in the way Bill Cosby had. Eventually, the strain of that split identity took its toll.

DR BLOOM is away in this new episode of the slick medical drama, and her replacemen­t is shaking things up in a way that, at first, seems great. Also, the hospital board tries to force profit-hungry changes on the medics, but Fulton (Alias’s Ron Rifkin) is determined to make a stand.

NEW YORK DRAMA The Deuce, 10pm, Sky Atlantic

AIDS hangs like a spectre over the new, third season of this accomplish­ed drama from The Wire’s David Simon. It opens in late 1984, as change comes for everyone, including Candy (Maggie Gyllenhaal), whose position as a feminist porn director looks shaky.

NO TIME To Die’s Ana de Armas co-stars in this decent thriller about an undercover ex-con who’s abandoned by his FBI handler (Rosamund Pike).
