Our two Oscar hopefuls join the red carpet battle for wackiest outfit award
With the arrival of awards season comes ample opportunity for celebrities to flaunt their fashion credentials.
And these stars plumped for audacious looks in the hope of standing out on the red carpet.
British Oscar nominees Florence Pugh and Cynthia Erivo both opted for loud colours and low necklines as they picked up Virtuosos Awards at the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Saturday.
Miss Erivo attended in a light blue floral gown from the Brock Collection. the dress featured long puffed sleeves, a corset-style tie front and trailed on the floor at the back, but was shorter at the front to show off her legs and bronze strappy heels.
Miss Erivo, 33, has been nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her part as abolitionist and political activist harriet tubman in harriet. And Miss Pugh stunned at the event in a peach Valentino gown.
the 24-year-old, who is up for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Amy March in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women, showed off her enviable figure in the bright spaghetti-strapped floor-length dress.
Miss Pugh, swept her waved blonde hair off her face into a half up, half down style and teamed the outfit with Aquazzura heels and bright pink Eera earrings.
Miss Erivo was in the running for the Female Actor in a Leading Role award at last night’s Screen Actors Guild awards. Kate Beckinsale, 46, and Nicole Kidman, 52, attended another pre-SAG event on Saturday night – the 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards at the hollywood Palladium. Both chose quirky outfits, with Miss Beckinsale dazzling in a gold sequined jumpsuit with plunging neckline by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad.
Miss Kidman opted for a white off-the-shoulder silk two piece by J. Mendel – which is thought to be worth around £3,300.
And a typically wacky Billie Eilish, 18, who will perform the theme for the next James Bond movie, wore an oversized white hoodie in a tattoo-style print.
She paired this with white tracksuit bottoms in a Powerpuff Girls print to headline the iheartRadio ALter EGO festival in California over the weekend.
