My husband left me... and married my mum

Groom walks out on wife and baby for his mother-in-law weeks after nuptials – then THEY have a child

A BRIDE was left heartbroken when the father of her baby walked out just weeks after their wedding – and moved in with her mother.

And just months later, Lauren Wall found out her mother Julie was pregnant.

Miss Wall said she had no idea her husband Paul White was having an affair with her mother – who is 18 years older than him andwas even invited to join the couple on their honeymoon.

She said: ‘I couldn’t believe the two people I loved and trusted most in the world could betray me like this.

‘It was sick. It’s one of the worst things a mum can do to a daughter.

‘Paul may have been a gutless groom but she’s my mum. She’s meant to love and protect me above all others.

‘Instead, she stole my husband, shattering my family and my dreams. For that, I’ll never truly forgive her. I was a 19-year-old kid with a kid.’ Miss Wall, 34, from Twickenham, south-west London, was just 17 when she met airport worker Mr White in a pub on Valentine’s Day.

The couple were together for two years before they had their daughter in March 2004 and married five months later.

When her mother – now 53 – paid for the £15,000 wedding, Miss Wall invited her along to the week-long honeymoon in Devon.

She said: ‘ Paul always got on really well with Mum. I never thought it strange, though, as she was his mum-in-law and he was just being friendly.

‘They’d laugh a lot together. I didn’t think to be worried at all. Who would?’

But the ‘ ink was barely dry’ on the marriage certificate when she noticed a change in her husband, who became protective of his phone and would go out for hours.

Just weeks later, Mrs Wall’s sister revealed that she had discovered compromising texts between their mother and Mr White, now 35.

Both denied the affair, but just days later, Mr White walked out on his new bride and their sevenmonth-old daughter.

Soon after, she told how her ‘world crumbled’ when she found out that he had moved in with her mother – and she was pregnant with his baby. Surprisingly, Miss

Wall attended their wedding five years later as part of a painstaking attempt to rebuild bridges with her mother for the sake of her daughter.

She told the Sunday Mirror: ‘As they exchanged vows it was hard not to think of the day Paul had said the same words to me, when Mum had stood alongside me, the proud mother of the bride.’ Over the past decade, she has kept in touch with her mother –who works in child services – but it has not been easy. She said: ‘Just because we spoke after doesn’t mean I’m over it. Paul never said sorry or tried to apologise to me.

‘I speak to him as he’s married to my mum. I’ve asked him before to explain to our daughter and he just says it’s forgotten about now.’ Miss Wall is now with a new partner and is pregnant with her fourth child.

She said: ‘What’s happened still has an impact on me, and on any relationship I’ve had. It’s going to give me trust issues for the rest of my life. Time is a great healer, and

Mum and I have tried to have a normal relationship. But we will never be as close as we were – and I’ll never fully trust her again.’

Speaking from the home she shares with Mr White, Miss Wall’s mother Julie said: ‘We are married. We didn’t have an affair. We are married and that’s it.’ Mr White declined to comment.
