Murray backed to win again

- MIKE DICKSON

DOUBLES specialist Bob Bryan believes Andy Murray can still come back from the pelvic bruising which is once again keeping him out of tennis. Bryan had the same resurfacing operation as the 32-year-old Scot, and was able to return to the less physically demanding doubles arena, providing inspiration and advice to the twice Wimbledon champion. The American, now 40, still claims the outlook is bright for Murray (right), even though he has played just one match since October 20 and announced last week that he was abandoning his comeback plans for February. ‘I talked to him last week. He’s got something unrelated to the hip injury,’ said Bryan. ‘His hip feels great. All his numbers are off the charts. He tests the speed and the strength.

He’s right back where he was when he was No 1, which is incredible. ‘But yeah, he’s got some question marks over this recent injury. He hopes to be back as soon as he can, he’s still working on it. ‘It’s a good surgery. It’s come a long way since a lot of our friends got it done 15, 20 years ago. It spelled the end of your career. This has given hope to a lot of people. ‘If anyone saw the documentary (Amazon Prime’s Andy Murray: Resurfacing), you’ll know how crazy he is with the work. He’s a madman. He’s going to do everything he can. I expect to see him playing for many more years, winning.’ Murray has no tournaments scheduled after pulling out of events in Montpellier and Rotterdam next month.
