Cole to pay price for Beasting with Six Nations snub

- CHRIS FOY and WILL KELLEHER

DAN COLE is expected to miss out on a place in England’s Six Nations squad after his scrum ordeal at the hands of the Beast — Springbok Tendai Mtawarira — in the World Cup final. National coach Eddie Jones prepares to bring in fresh faces today to the group who fly to Portugal later this week for warm-weather training before their championship campaign begins against France in Paris. Northampton’s back-three rookie George Furbank is one of the uncapped players set to be included in the squad, while his in-form club-mate Teimana Harrison is believed to be on course for a recall. However, despite Billy Vunipola suffering a suspected broken arm yesterday, Harlequins No 8 Alex Dombrandt — widely tipped for inclusion — is unlikely to make the cut when Jones shows his hand at noon. He has won back-to-back man of the match awards in European matches, has been acclaimed for his rampaging exploits and earned a lucrative new club contract, but the England management are believed to have doubts about his fitness for international rugby. There has been speculation about a changing of the guard at scrum-half, but it is understood that Dan Robson will miss out again, as Jones is likely to retain his World Cup duo, Ben Youngs and Willi Heinz. The former is expected to be one of five Tigers, along with George Ford, Jonny May, Manu Tuilagi and Ellis Genge. Elsewhere, there is no place for Ben Curry, who had been in contention to join twin brother Tom in the ranks. However, Sportsmail understands that the uncapped sibling may be called up during the championship because rotation is on the cards. Having come out of Test retirement last summer, prop Joe Marler is set to play on.
