Kate takes prison tour – then (surprise!) Meghan releases two-week-old snaps of dogs’ home visit
THE Duchess of Cambridge visited a women’s prison yesterday – only to be dogged by Meghan releasing old pictures of a trip to an animal shelter.
Kate visited HMP Send, near Woking, Surrey, and talked to prisoners who trace their history of offending and addiction back to their troubled upbringing.
It was part of a whistle- stop tour across Britain to launch a survey into how childhood experiences can be improved to boost life chances later. Speaking earlier at a children’s centre in Cardiff, Kate recalled how cut off she felt when she was living in Anglesey when Prince George was a ‘tiny baby’ and her husband, William, was working night shifts as an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot.
She said: ‘It was so isolated. I didn’t have any family around and he was doing night shifts. If only I had had a centre like this.’
But it came as the Duchess of Sussex, in Canada, had her digital team post two photos of her private visit to an animal rescue centre, of which she is patron. The pictures, taken a fortnight ago, show her with staff at the Mayhew shelter in Kensal Green, north London, as well as a dog.
An accompanying message began: ‘Earlier this month, The Duchess of Sussex popped in to see the amazing people at Mayhew to hear about the incredible progress made throughout the festive period.’
And the pictures were issued at the same moment – 8am – that her father-in-law, Prince Charles, was launching a green initiative on social media. Sources said the timing of the posting on the Sussex Royal Instagram site was co-incidental,
But it highlights how, now Harry and Meghan have stepped back from royal duties and are now no long co-ordinating their diaries with other royals, clashes will happen,
Yesterday the Sussex Royal Instagram feed finally caught up with rival Kensington Royal, run by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Both have 11million followers.
