I prefer it when a woman is flirty. Holly’s hard to read

MARC, 32 VITAL STATISTICS

SINGLE for 18 months, no children.

CURRENT ROLE

FIREFIGHTER.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

AN AMBITIOUS, active and attractive girl. I run, cycle and go to the gym, so I’m not looking for someone who doesn’t keep fit.

DATING PAST?

I HAd an eight-year relationship which ended 18 months ago. we lived together and it has been hard to move on. It’s very different being single in my early 30s, especially as many of my friends are married with children.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

Yes — I had never been on a blind date before.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

we Met at the Bluebird cafe in west London, which was wonderful. when I saw Holly, I’ve got to be honest, I didn’t fancy her. she is quite petite with brown hair, whereas my ideal woman would be someone like opera singer Katherine Jenkins.

she also seemed quite reserved and timid. I prefer my date to be a bit flirty and to make it known they like me, but I didn’t get any such impression from Holly.

EASY TO TALK TO?

It feLt a little forced. even though we covered everything, from work to dogs — we talked a lot about Holly’s dogs — I did struggle to find common ground. I probably didn’t try as hard as I could have done, but I’d already decided she wasn’t for me.

the food was fantastic though. I thought we should make a day of it and we went to a couple of bars after.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

At tHe start, Holly was waiting for me by the cloakroom while I was shown to our table. there was a mixup about our reservation, but it wasn’t anyone’s fault. she arrived early and hadn’t been seated before I got there.

DID SPARKS FLY?

nO, and I like to think I let on straight away that I didn’t fancy her. I don’t know if she liked me because Holly is a hard read. there were no romantic overtures on my part. But the chatting did get easier over the course of the date.

DID YOU KISS?

Just a goodbye peck on the cheek. she’s a nice girl, but I do make my mind up pretty quickly. the initial attraction just wasn’t there for me.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

I HAve no idea. she probably picked up on the fact that I didn’t fancy her.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE HER?

sHe’s very different to anyone I’ve introduced to them before. I prefer women who make it known they want to be with me.
