HOT WHAT’S NOT WHAT’S

HOT WIGAN WARRIORS

SOMETIMES the best response to fire and brimstone is a calm show of reason. Warriors’ decision to use their March meeting with Catalans Dragons to support LGBTQ+ groups was an inspired way to greet news that Dragons have resurrected the dinosaur Israel Folau (above).

McENROE AND NAVRATILOVA

JUST as Margaret Court has the freedom to air offensive views, so too did John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova (above) have the right to protest the naming of an arena in her honour. Tennis Australia looked a little daft calling them out on it.

ASTON VILLA

IN A season that might well end in relegation they will still have more to show for it than most, having reached the Carabao Cup final. As a fun detail, they have now reached a major cup final in 14 different decades.

NOT LUIS FIGO

AT THE risk of overlooking the possibility of a major coincidence, Figo either copied Cristiano Ronaldo’s tweet about Kobe Bryant or they both followed to the word the suggestion of a third party. Either way you have to wonder how soulless some people can be.

JURGEN KLOPP

IT WAS a mistake, plain and simple, but there is surely no dismounting now from that very high horse. So, if it transpires that Klopp doesn’t show up for work at the Shrewsbury replay, we can safely say it will be the first blemish in what has otherwise been a perfect season.

PATRICK REED

HE HAS spent time this week at the Saudi International explaining the great privilege he feels at spreading golf to the region. And so we add another pawn to the great sportwashing game. At some point these guys might realise how silly they all sound.
